MCPxHub
MCPxHub is an MCP relay that runs on your machine and connects Claude Desktop to the development tools you are using. It automatically finds a running VS Code or VS Code-based editor such as Cursor or Windsurf, or a JetBrains IDE such as IntelliJ IDEA or PyCharm, and passes the tools offered by the editor's MCP plugin (for example GG MCP for VSCode) on to Claude Desktop, with no ports to configure by hand. It reconnects automatically after the editor restarts, and when the plugin's tools change, Claude Desktop is updated too.
The problem it solves
Claude Desktop starts and connects to MCP servers as local processes, while an MCP plugin inside an editor serves its tools on a port on your machine. The two cannot connect directly, and the plugin's port may change when the editor restarts. MCPxHub sits between them: Claude Desktop starts MCPxHub, which finds the editor, passes the tools on and keeps the connection alive, so there is no need to look up or enter a port by hand.
Main features
- Automatic discovery: scans the port range on your machine that matches the configured editor type and finds the running MCP plugin.
- Tool pass-through: the plugin's tools appear in Claude Desktop, and each call is passed to the plugin and the result returned to Claude Desktop.
- Automatic reconnection: the editor and Claude Desktop can be started in either order; after the editor restarts the connection is restored, and when the plugin's tools change, the list in Claude Desktop is updated.
Who it is for
Developers who use Claude Desktop and want it to work directly on the project open in their editor. VS Code-family editors can be used with GG MCP for VSCode; JetBrains IDEs need a suitable MCP plugin.
What you need
- Claude Desktop.
- Node.js 20 or later. Claude Desktop runs MCPxHub through npx, so no separate installation is needed.
- An editor plugin that provides MCP tools on your machine: GG MCP for VSCode for VS Code and VS Code-based editors such as Cursor and Windsurf, or an MCP plugin for JetBrains IDEs such as IntelliJ IDEA and PyCharm.
- MCPxHub added to the Claude Desktop configuration file with the editor type set to vscode or jetbrains, as shown in the configuration examples below.
How it works
Tool pass-through
The plugin's tools appear in Claude Desktop and each call is passed to the plugin; if a call fails, the error is reported back to Claude Desktop.
Finds your editor
Scans the port range on your machine for the configured editor type, probing several ports at once and using the first one that answers, with no port to configure by hand.
Start in any order
While the editor is not running, MCPxHub keeps checking and connects as soon as the editor starts or restarts; when the plugin's tools change, Claude Desktop is updated.
Two families of tools
Works with VS Code and VS Code-based editors such as Cursor and Windsurf, and with JetBrains IDEs such as IntelliJ IDEA and PyCharm; the editor type is chosen in the configuration.
